I bought these shocks from MikesXS:

http://www.mikesxs.net/products-18.html#products

The second ones on the list - Monza Cafe gas shocks. Guess what? They don't fit on the fucking bike. The spring diameter is too big, it doesn't fit past the chain guard. Even with the chain guard off, the chain rubs on the spring.

Long story short, fuck Mikes (like you've never heard anyone say that on this board). Anyone have any suggestions for shocks that will fit a Special and that aren't insanely expensive?

It's typical to cut a place out of the chain guard to fit a shock. Mine has a crescent cut out that's unnoticable and looks original.

Hitting the chain is a different matter though! Is everything stock back there?

Somebody suggested a shock at Omar's to me to fit my Special. I didn't get it and don't remember the number but it was cheap and sounded like it would be good.

If you don't want to cut the chain guard, call 650 Central for a pair of Progressive Series 14 oil-damped shocks. At around $200/pr. with springs tuned to your setup and weight, they're the most bang for the buck I know of--and they aren't made in China.
