If the bike was bought and the realization was that it was not practical then stripping and selling off the parts would be a way to recuperate and maybe make some money.................. If it is the 79 Special II, then the wheels alone would almost cover the cost of the bike.

A lot of variables and advise to buy the bike, without seeing any pics, is not in your best interest

$2500 to $5500 can turn a pile of crap into a nice bike and it depends both on your luck and your skill. If you can’t sink some bucks into it, it isn’t going to work out.
