I just got a '75 xs650 that I'm needing various parts for. I'm wondering if parts from other year models will work. For example, will the side panels or center stand from a '74 or '76 fit? Thanks.

Staying stone stone stock, restomod, or custom?
Stone stock, centerstand; 74-75 only, it has a long tang to fit around the low mufflers used in 74-75, change of exhaust; then any 74-83 fits.
Side covers; 74-79 STANDARDs not specials will fit, there is a difference on how they are pressed after 77 I think.

Parts from many model years are interchangeable. Take a look at some parts diagrams, see if they part numbers on different model years are the same. Even the Mikes XS or 650 Direct sites have some clues as to parts that fit several model years, in the part description.

Thanks. No, I'm not interested in staying stock. I'm working on a cafe racer/brat style. I like the tip about checking parts numbers on different parts diagrams. I never thought about that.
