hi guys.

don't know if its possible, but I have purchased a 7 wire rectifier regulator from mikes xs, would like to know if its possible to bench test it with a multimeter. also have seen a 5 wire rectifier regulator selling on mikes xs, is anyone using such a rectifier regulator? how does it Work?

thanks

The 5 wire unit is a rectifier only (some very misleading wording in their add!). You need to have 7 wires in order to have a rectifier/regulator.

You could test the rectifier portion of the 7 wire rec/reg. Its explained on page 158 of the Haynes manual. You have to measure resistance from the each yellow wire to the red wire and to the case. You are measuring 6 diodes, so correct polarity will give either low resistance or very high resistance. See details on page 158.

If you have a 70 to 79 year, its cheaper to use an NOS automotive regulator such as the VR-115, and buy a couple of bridge rectifiers to make your own rectifier. You could also buy a 3 phase rectifier.
