Are the starter gears for all years the same? I have an S650 engine, which is a '72, that has no starter or starter gears at all. Someone wanted to shave a pound or two off the gross weight so they removed everything that's used by the electric starter and plugged the starter hole. I'd like to eBay those parts but I don't know if they changed any of that when they went to the 18/36 tooth crank/cam. I'm going to post this on other 650 forums as well. Thanks

I believe the starter motor and associated gears were the same for all years 72 to 83.

Put an add in the classified on this site. Many guys like to remove the starter motor, so there are plenty just laying around. The associated gears may be a little harder to find, but I'm sure they will be available.

You will want to buy 2 new oil seals for the starter motor..................one for the shaft and one for the casing.
