Starter solenoid necessary?

Edit update: I figured it out


It's my 1980 xs650 SG, I'm working on a complete re-wire, following one of the simplified wiring diagrams, running a PMA swap and Pamco.

My question is:

Is it possible to run the starter without a starter solenoid/relay? Did PO possibly remove it? I don't even see starter solenoid on the bike... is this possible, or am I missing something?

Never mind! I traced the wires to the side of the battery box and there was the solenoid.
