Starter works 1/2 the time

Starter will not engage every time. Months ago I read about a fix, but can't find the post.
Anyone have this issue, what's the fix?

The "fix" is to squeeze the wishbone on the clip spring tightening it.
I didn't find it to work with the teeth worn down to 6mm. 7mm is stock.
