Stripped screw holes.

My bike is a 1971 Yamaha xs1-b. It has Mikuni carbs. They are 38s. There are stripped float bowl screw holes on both carbs. I am thinking about getting slightly longer screws, and putting a nut on the back side. I'm sure open to the right way to fix this problem.

Helicoil

Drill and tap the next size up.

Fill with jb weld and redrill and tap to correct size. They don’t take much torque down.

Almost anything but your idea.

Helicoil. More than one carb out there with helicoils on in the float bowl holes.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Helicoils it is. A M4 X 0.7 kit is on order. It should arrive on Monday. I visited six stores and the kit isn't available locally.

When fuel is involved, I like to lock the threads in place with a little dab of J B Weld original formula. It'll be stronger than new.
