I have an 81 GS850 - had it since new in '84 ( a leftover). It has been nothing but sweet to me; I still drag it out once in a while for old times sake. I think "bulletproof" doesn't quite cover it. I went on a trip with my 18 year old son - he rode the 850 and me on my Connie. The old 850 made the whole trip from CA to Colorado, Utah, etc., and return with no problems - and it was 25 years old then! The year before, I rode it Montana and back with no problems either. The gas tank is 5.6 gal. Maybe a little over 200 per tank is about the best I ever got. Of course, "your mileage may vary"!
