Hey guys,

New to XS650s and the forum. I was wondering if anyone had some insight to an issue I'm having on my 1979 Special II. It seems the throttle return lever on the left carb wont snap back on it own. The throttle cable itself has nice action and is fine. When lifting the throttle lever manual it doesn't snap back though. What would be causing this issue? Maybe I put the spring on backwards?

Thanks!

A little history on the bike and the carbs would help, but if you disassembled the throttle shaft and plate, and put the plate in cocked when you re-assembled, then that's your problem.

Yup an easy mistake 5twins recommends that you assemble the shaft with all levers and springs with the plate screws just lightly seated, then snap the throttle open and shut a few times before final tightening. He's right, you gotta do this.
