Curmudgeon.
Something on my bike that definitely improved the front brake and was free: I adjusted the lever stop screw so that there's a fair amount of free play, like ~1 1/4" as measured at the ball, that allows me to get a better grip on the lever. The idea is to be able to grab the lever with my first two fingers and be able to touch the outside of the other two at about the point where the front tire could slide. Made a HUGE difference. You also see 'shorty' front brake levers which allow the same thing but won't clamp your outer fingers.
