I have "78 UK XS650E and need to either replace or overhaul the front brake master cylinder. Having researched a bit I'm confused, pictures of similar bikes I've seen have the square master cylinder of later models, however mine has the round type master cylinder which seems to be on earlier models with twin front disks to '76. Should I be looking to get repair kit / new cylinder for earlier model to '76? Thanks.

How do your brakes work now?

You want to match your M/C to your caliper setup. Dual discs I believe would require a 16mm master cylinder, so look for a rebuild unit for 16mm or buy a whole new M/C. Single caliper setups do best with an 11mm M/C.

With brakes, especially a front, I'd probably just but the entire M/C.
