Anyone here have a chop with a bare metal frame? I was thinkin it might look cool and be easy to change stuff around, but don't know how to keep it from rusting. Wd40 it every once in a while?

WD40 is useless for this... Go get some linseed oil and scotchbrite pads and you will be good to go for some time. When it does come time to paint it, the prep work will be a PITA to remove all of the oil but that will last where the WD40 you will be lucky if it last a day riding.

You could wax it.
Or, get a bit more involved & spray some clear, cook on & let dry, around the different mounts & tabs, then wax rest of it.\ don't want the rest of the bike too shiney.
&, you could blue the steel with some oxy/ace torch, then wax it.

Or just run an oily rag across it every couple weeks, leaving a nice dry yet oiled appearance, & whenever the oxidation gets ahead of ya you could scrub it off with a green scrubby & oil it right back up--VERY SeXY--sort of like nude, hot oil wrestling--OH YEAH!http://www.xs650.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
