Valve adjusters not square on valve stem

Having trouble adjusting valves on '78.

The exhaust for example is 6 at the back of adjuster, way more at front because of the "square" issue.

Are the adjusters junk? Can they be filed flat? Valve stems look fine.

Engine sounds like it has valve noise but runs well.

Hey, SpitfireOps. It's not unusual for these aged valve adjuster tips to fracture. There's a vendor on eBay that will regrind your adjusters to the correct curvature. You can also buy new adjusters from MikesXS. I've reground mine, followed by tip case-hardening and polishing. Ultimate upgrade is the 'elephants foot' adjusters.

I got them set as well as I can for now.

Very noisy engine but now I think it may be bottom end.
