Valve Spring Removal?

Hey guys,

I'm working on rebuilding my '77 XS650 engine and I am going to replace the valve seals in the head. Is there a way to compress the valve springs so I can get the valves out without a special tool? I have a large c-clamp that could fit from one side of the valve to the other, but what kind of end would I have to make for it to make it work to get the valves out?

I would just buy one but if you do want to make one, another member has done just that HERE
