We are only limited by our imaginations! Cool bikes. (even if they started as Viragos...I just can't stand the name..Virago..sounds like a cheap bottle of wine..)

Do a name search....some mythical female or somethin'. Sakura is kinda in the same vein. Not sure I could have either as my wife might feel slighted, HA!

I wouldn't mind a Sakura...for my g/f. =]

The Virago's above are VERY custom, like frame rebuild. I think they are from some Danish builder. Those seats don't look very comfy though...let's call it race inspired. =]

the virgos were part of that whole "Stock Chopper" phase of the japenese bike market, capital W ugly, hard to mod, they were what they were

I had an early virago for my first street bike. It was reliable but fugly. I stared at it for hours in the winter trying to figure out how to make it better looking, but my imagination just wasn't kicking in. And for some reason it was boring as hell to ride and had no character.
I've been thinking the last few years about picking up a newer 1100 (twin visible shocks)
just to see what I could do with it. Their biggest flaws are the ugly seats and handle bars and miles of ridiculous plastic chrome. Compared to a sportster they have better power, way more reliable, and a hell of a lot cheaper.
Love the virago in the pic beside the intruder!

James I'm with you. I never thought they were cool bikes.

The 4 posted were the only ones I found that were neat looking.

I was just surprised at how the rear end was shaped. The angle of the shocks and the design is similar to what people are doing now. Sure they are ugly, but so are 650 Specials!

My other bike is a 1994 XV1100 Virago - like Jayel says above, they were what they were, styling wise, but really smooth riding and reliable. 75 degree V twin, shaft drive. Cosmetically, I've put wire spoke wheels from mid-80s vintage XV700, de-chromed a bit (mostly to reduce reflection of the instrument pods in the windshield), installed V&H exhaust system and Road Star mirrors with shorter stalks, and modded the front fender to add about 4 more inches of wrap down the back - cuts down a bit on the road crap thrown on the front pipe and front of engine with the stock "beanie" one. Am in the process now of bobbing the turn signal housings. Gonna take it 2000 miles this summer around the north shore of Lake Superior. Some folks don't like messing with the twin carbs (aftermarket single carb manifolds are available), but when you get them really clean and dialed in (just like any bike needs), they do the job just fine.

There is a great deal on an 93ish 1400 Suzuki in eastern Iowa, 14K miles great shape $2300 OBO

1993 Susuki Intruder only 13,358 miles, looks and runs like new. Super nice clean bike, ready to ride. Comes with windshield, saddle bags and cover. Just took it for a ride Thursday afternoon (2-17-11), it ran great. Asking 2300 OBO

For some reason the intruders don't have a great following, the styling is a bit over the top. But it's hard to argue; the engine is more attractive than the viagra's

Just in case someone wants it

The radiator on the intruder just ruins it for me, air cooled engines just look better.

I totally agree. I liked a few Honda Shadows I've seen but the radiator up front just destroys the aesthetics...

umm it's air cooled? It DOES have an oil cooler though. I am biased for Shadows myself, I like my stone stock 1100 ACE it's coming up on 45,000 miles untouched and is going strong. That darned radiator may have something to do with that.
