visual impact brat kit questions

hey everyone,

just about to order the visual impact brat kit from the states.
was just wondering what shocks are people using when they install this kit? in all of the photos it doesn't look like anyone is using the stock shocks? am i correct in saying they would be too long?

i just wanted to know so i can buy the right ones and weld everything on in the right place first time round.

Most people use 10.5" Honda Rebel shocks.

I run 12.5 on my latest one(wicked soul) and theres 11 inch progressives on the other bike I built on my site. I like the longer shocks. If they are really stiff shocks 10.5 would probably be ok. It is a good idea to have shocks on hand before starting so you can get the look you want.

Question: I've seen a few people welding in a support bar between the rear shock mounts on the brat kit to tie them together.... The guys at work are telling me that I need to do this otherwise the mounts will flex too much. Is this necessary? because I like it better with nothing inbetween.

the swingarm takes the load, the shocks are just shock absorbers.
