I got this engine from some guy for $20. I figured I made out pretty good since it turned over. Before even trying to get it running I decided to tear it down and give it a complete rebuild. When I got the head off I noticed what looked like jb weld. I knocked it off and this may be my first motorcycle build but i'm pretty sure something is wrong with this. Any ideas? Is the head salvageable?

Seen that on here a few times before. Seems like a broken valve spring retainer takes out that web, it's just an oil fence probably no big deal if the rest of the head is OK. You might want to check valve stem/guide clearances.
