I have a 75 xs using points and auto advance. A wile back I had a problem with the auto advance not retarding after going to full advance. No big deal, lubed the shaft and I ordered some new springs from mikes xs. They sucked so I cut a loop off of them. that fixed it, the weights snap back. I've had no problems until now, about a year later, now they will not go to to full advance. I can move it with my finger to full advance and they snap back too, but centrifugal force is not enough to advance it. I took just one of my springs off and gave it a shot. It works fine, goes to full advance when I want it to and, comes back down to the idle position. Does anyone see a problem with running it with one spring? both springs work together to achieve the same goal

Put one of the old ones on with it. You did save the old ones, right? You should, in most cases, never throw old parts away. Depending on what you used for lube on the advance rod, that may need to be done again.
