I'm trying to determine if it's easier to get a title for a custom bike (using the no title bike- creating a bobber and calling it a 2016) or doing the rediculous amount of work to get the title recovered.
Synopsis. Bought basket case bike from a man who got it in an estate sale. Last owner has died and no family members are able to help. In NC the first step is to have the theft buero check out the bike (or frame) they do the research to find if any liens and if it's stolen. Then they give a report that I then take to dmv with an insurance bond to get an inoperable title.
Then once title comes in and I complete the bob, I bring it back to the inspectors to check and make sure it's operable, they give me the inspection and I take that back to dmv to pay tax title fee and get tag.
I'm wondering if letting it be a 2016 custom is just easier? Any one in NC done this?
