So I have an issue with my revs sticking higher than normal. One thing is, if I blip the throttle up to 2k and let it close, it will hang and suddenly want to go further BY ITSELF and reach up to 4k RPM. This is both in neutral and idling, and in any gear with the clutch pulled in.
I did some extensive searching on this site about sticking RPMs and RPMs going up without the throttle open, and I think it's my rod.
I'm pretty sure it's not a vacuum leak around the carb manifolds going into the engine, but I took the advancing mechanism rod out (the rod that goes horizontally through the top of the top end) and it is bone dry on a good 90% of it. Should the whole rod be greased, and would that cause my RPM's to stick and/or go high by itself?
It's a 1979 XS650 Special, and it does have an electric start.
