Special vs. Standard

The first 650 Special came out in '78. Yamaha continued to make the Standard model along with it in '78 and '79. In 1980, the Standard was dropped in the States anyway, and only Specials were sold here from then on. I think the Standard continued to be produced for other markets for a few more years. In 1979, Yamaha introduced a second Special model, the Special II. This was a budget model with spoke wheels and a drum rear brake as opposed to the mags and disc rear brake that came on the regular Special. It was produced in '80 and '81 as well. For '82 and '83, only one 650 model was sold, the Heritage 650 with the mega-spoke wheels.

The problem with starting multiple threads with the same question is the answers get scattered all over hell.
Maybe ask an admin to delete one of 'em?
