What have you done to your XS today?

Pulled valve inspection covers on my 71, polished 4 covers from a later model so I could use gggary's orings. No more leaks.

Changed oil. made ANOTHER rear mudguard mount, realigned rear wheel, lubed chain, installed hydraulic clutch, and then sat on it for a bit, making engine noises!

Changed oil AGAIN on the 79, didn't get a petcock right. Tank holds gas with no fuel lines on the petcocks now, so hopefully that's the last oil change for a while! What do I do with a gallon of about 50/50 oil gas mix?

Lawn mower. Fire starter. Give it to the bum with the sign that says "stranded- need gas".
That's some fancy packaging for those orings, gggary.
Polished left case cover to near mirror on my 71. Rode it to the store for smokes. Tried to adjust front drum. Pain in the ass. Checked timing, did idle drop.

Hi Gary,
dilute it with a lot more gas and run your outboard motor on it?
Or if you don't have any kind of 2-stroke motor, pour half a cupful into your bike tank every time you fill it, a poor man's upper cylinder lubricant.

Chainguard decided to snap off as soon as I hit downtown. Was making a god awful noise. I thought it was gonna be.worse .like.something wrong with engine.or.something. Ended up taking the rear right shock off to shimmy that guard off. It was a.bear. Right in front of.Buckingham Fountain haha

Realized my stator is stuck on......any suggestions on getting it off?
Stator is just three screws and a push fit, a bit of tapping with a wood block and a hammer will loosen it. When reinstalling watch that the pin in the crankcase is aligned with the notch in the stator frame.

pulled needle jets for bs34 5twins advised me that they may not have slots or grooves, but mine do, they were on the third groove down so moved them up one notch. hope is this will weaken the mixture for the bike

Re torque head checked all bolts found a few loose ones, fitted new float valves and float bowl caskets to carbs waiting on new main jets

Swapped out my Reign VMX bars for a set of Renthal Road High bars that I saw recommended on a thread here. The bike feels completely different, up through 4k RPM there is almost zero vibration in them. Have to go on a high speed run tomorrow :bike:

went for a short ride, ran out of gas, turned petcocks to off instead of reserve, kicked a-lot, said sh!t, fixed that issue, got gas, rode some more. now seems the shifter gets a little wacky after hot - hangs in neutral or third depending on its mood. the knee says "take a nap" who am i to argue.

Finally got the cases separated. Waiting on my cam and crank to get back from hugh. Then ordering an ignition and pma before I put it all back together......hopefully

I rode the M-effer for first time since I bought it in bad shape 17 months ago!!:bike::bike:

After straightening out the charging system this week and fixing my slipping clutch today (pushrods in backwards) I put a 20 mile test ride in - Torque out the arse :D

Thanks to everyone for your patience and guidance with every technical issue I encountered. The people on this forum ROCK!!! Thanks again!!!
