UK Board Tracker Build Thread

Hi Paul,
I rode in the UK from when I got my licence at age 17 until I emigrated at age 31.
I can count on my fingers the rides where it didn't rain on me coming, going or in between.
You mightn't want mudguards on the bike but you certainly need them.

Thanks Airwolfie, I'm definately going to paint it - still no idea on colour.

I pulled the engine tonight to get it off to the blasters. That way I can build it up over Easter weekend and get it back in the frame to wire, test fire etc. When takingt He engine out, I noticed that the mounts don't lend themselves easily to removal. So I am going to look at welding a tab to the lower rear to enable them to be bolted to the frame, allowing more clearance and less risk of damaging the casing or more importantly the shiny new paintwork

A little more done today. I took the lower rear engine mounts off and made two tabs to weld to them once I've got the engine back in the frame. That way I can drill and tube the frame to allow me to bolt the mounts down and get the engine in and out easily.

I mentioned somwhere earlier in the thread about wanting a small disc on the rear. I looked high and low for a disc that would bolt straight on but no such luck. So, I got a Ducati 916 disc which is 220mm. It also has a wide inner with four mounting bolts. With that in mind, I decided to machine an aluminium carrier to mount off the original bolt spacings. Quite laborious but I think well worth the effort.

I also made up a set of braided brake lines for the front

Tomorrow I'll start on a caliper hanger. By the placement of the bleed nipple I think it'll have to be a top mount at the moment.

Nice work on the carrier Paul. As always great job man! Almost makes me sick, how nice and clean this bike is. You should be ashamed of yourself. :D

Tomorrow I'll start on a caliper hanger. By the placement of the bleed nipple I think it'll have to be a top mount at the moment.

I had a friend in Washington state that used a caliper like that but hung it on the under side, to bleed it he just took it off and used a block of wood till he got it clear then remounted.

superb Paul
you've got some useful engineering skills (and equipment ):wink2:
Rear end looks spot on. Simple and effective .
I love the eccentric ratchet and pawl chain tensioner design (is that the correct terminology ?) superb welding its going to be another show winner when finished

Hey Peanut. Thanks very much for that :)

Yep, that's about right, people call them all sorts of things.

A little more done today. I made a hanger for the rear caliper and got that on to check spacings etc. I'll make a stay rod for it next weekend.

I even got a case polished too :)

A little more done today. I got the engine cases back from the blasters. As always, a good job. Today I polished the clutch cover and spent a lot of time cleaning a washing out the inner of the cases, just to be extra sure that there's no blast media lurking in even the tiniest orifice :)

In preperation for the engine build tomorrow, I also finished off the rear lower mounts. As mentioned in an earlier post, I cut off the mounts as they were interfering with the engine fitting. So I welded tabs to the mounts and then drilled the frame, welding in sleeves to avoid any crushing.

The cock up fairy also paid me a visit and managed to give life to one of the shims that goes under the valve springs and it merrily hopped off outside, never to be found again. So, I had to machine a replacement :)

Engine build starts tomorrow :)

Nice mounts! Curious, are those allen head screws going to be strong enough to support the engine vibrations and road vibrations? Just seem a little small to me.
