Morris Magneto for XS

It would look pretty cool. Some people will buy it, some will envy it, others will do something else, I think its cool to see stuff being made for the xs that's different.

Its an ignition, I don't think it charges, just supplies it's own juice for the ignition. You would still need a charging system, assuming you want lights, whether stock or the banshee setup.

Most people ride the XS650 because parts are available at reasonable prices. That item is pricing itself out of the market. In addition, the XS650 is a beautiful looking engine...............that thing would look like a wart on someones nose...............IMHO.

It's a great world when we all like different things. :) No one will be forced to buy it, and not many will I expect.

I love the variety of xs's we have on here, from pure restorations to some that look un-ridable.

I sent them an email with these questions.

Looking for details on your YXS system. Does it also replace the charging system on the XS65O? Or do I keep my charging system and just use this as an ignition replacement. I see it is cam driven, do I keep my points rod and advance unit, or is it all combined in this magneto?

Thanks
Hugh

And just got my response

Hugh,

You keep your charging system. The magneto does only the ignition, independent of the rest of your electrics. With a magneto, the faster it turns, the hotter the spark.

On the advance side, you keep only the plate. a coupler piece fits over the pins, and a slotted hub fits over the top of it, on the stock rod, to set your timing. Bottom of the magneto is relieved for spark plug removal, and the mount sits concentric in the bore where the points plate was. Choice of black or clear cap option.

Any other questions, please let me know,

It is for racing primarily. You remove your rotor and stator because you don't need them, and the engine spins up faster, the faster you go, the hotter the spark!

Perhaps I am ignorant to the difference. Can someone explain to me the difference in this magneto setup and a banshee setup.
Can you use the magneto setup instead of a banshee setup on the street?

NO

CHARGING SYTEM = Keeps the lights working and charges the battery (if you have one)
Banshee setup is a CHARGING SYSTEM ONLY!

IGNITION SYSTEM = Makes Spark Plugs fire, ignites fuel, makes the engine run. That is it's only job, it will not charge the battery nor will it it provide enough energy to run lights. The Morris Magneto supplies just enough energy to keep itself operating, even without a battery or external charging system.

They are 2 entirely seperate systems. The Banshee setup is a CHARGING SYSTEM. It does not replace your ignition, and no ignition system on the market replaces the charging system either...

so basically what you are saying is: with this magneto, i won't need a transmission. right?
