With a little luck, it will be warm enough by the end of the month or early next month to get the paint done on the SG and finally start riding. So... I need a horn. One that's unobtrusive... and loud. Suggestions?

Were`nt there some horns in that box of stuff you got from me? If not I know I`ve got some with brackets.

The stock ones ain't loud enough.... ;)

82 Seca 650 had two chrome rim black horns. Looked great. When they were manually tuned correctly which was fun to do, they were quite loud.
Have you tried to tune in yours ?
I see a set on Ebay $20

Problem there is that the best horns are ugly and need to be hidden. Caution on the aftermarket horns, the brackets can break off, sometimes there is no removable fastener to mount another bracket. I saw a small round horn at O'reilly's, intended for a car, advertised as loud, might work well for a bike?

I might try one or two of these on one bike. They have a low tone and a high tone version, 115 decibels each. In person they look more durable than most cycle horns, maybe another layer of paint.
That looks promising Scott.

I have been using a cheap Fiamme horn and it is loud, but it is hard to hide on the XS650. I have two of them on my ST1300 (a high and low tone) and they sound...well, they're damned loud and they fit inside the fairing.

Having said that - the disc horn in Scott's advert looks like a good choice because it is basically the same shape as the stock Yamaha XS650 horn (I think). I'm going to see if I can scare up one of those.

I might try two mounted at or near the stock location with a relay. Two horns make me think of the Honda Magna's with those two horns mounted front and center with chrome bezels around them. Damn those Magna engines were ugly enough without all of the other repeated uglies on that bike.

sayin' these twin horns dont look so bad and projected sound out front pretty well.

Wolo bad boy air horn on my Roadstar. You would need a separate relay to power from battery like you mention above. It's mounted below the passenger footpeg on my bike. It's real loud and gets everyones attention.

I don't know, I kind of like the look of an original horn that's been cleaned up. I finally got around to my 81's horn and reinstalled it.
Use the Wolo bad boy (for the sound level) but hide it then reinstall the original for the looks........... 20190308_093820-1.jpg

Not even gonna check Steve. Got a 30A relay on hand. Great minds and all that......
Suppose I could ohm it and do the ohms law thing.... if I can find it.
How do you wire in a relay ? Can it be wired in off the wiring going to the horn
