TCI Replacement 2020 It Works

This is the pickup we are experimenting with. Funny it said 2 sold(Jim) now 4 sold (my 2). The good news is more than 10 available. That was one of the factors in choosing this particular pickup.https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-RXZ-RX...337175e8a2ca7441425c91988293f930f31d#shpCntId

Skull here is a link I found for the same pickup on ebay.com.au

Have not fitted one yet. Seller says 28mm spacing on the mounting holes. The opening in the stator cover is a tad over 30 so I will require a mounting tab extender on the top side. The 14 mm from the mounting screw to the centerline of the pickup should be close enough.
The pickups will be here Wednesday and will cobble one into the teststand and play with it. Will attempt a photo illustration. Jim can you send a photo of the pickup from directly above with the side that will face out and maybe a profile shot to look at the depth.

Bottom line on pickup placement.
Perform Jim's magnet mod.
Then
1.Line up the rotor timing mark on the rotor to F on timing marks or plus or minus depending on how aggressive you want to be with the fully advanced spot.
2. Position pickup directly over magnet.
3. Mark and drill stator cover for pickup mounts.
4. Fire up engine and adjust timing.

Thanks for the links TJ.............
Aussie dollars,
..$6.40 for the part.....
$24.50 for freight........then another
..$8.50 for import duties.......
$39.50 Total.......

we now have a GST component on all new parts imported,. GST is 10% of the part.......
import duty should be 64c, not $8.50.........bloody rip offs.

mmmmmmmm........guess i'll be looking around........don't think there are to many options

Yea looking around...........can get pulse pickups from china for $15.00 or so, free shipping..........around $30-$40 in Aus........

Got to find one that has enough depth to replicate the same depth/distance from the rotor that the Factory pickup has..........

or how crucial is that???. ........I assume it is

have to make adapter plates for these.........

ebay choices

That's even worse than when I put in Australia as the address in U.S. ebay. Guess they were quoting in U.S. Dollars. When I was looking at it on the Aussie ebay they said free shipping but I didn't enter the country for a shipping estimate.Figured it was ebay.au so they were talking about free shipping to Australia.
This leads me to believe that China Post must be subsidizing the shipping from China. I've ordered crap from China for less than $5.00 with free shipping. I know that even shipping to Canada from here is a pain in butt in paperwork and stupid expensive.
Makes you wonder how countries divvy up mailing revenues on international shipping.

Yep the gap across the window in the stator will require a adapter plate no matter what.
Most pickups are design to mount on the periphery of the rotor but a 90 degree mount is no big deal.

The Gonzo box is a high impedance input so the impedance of the coil is not so significant. I have now tried it with 3 different pickups and it has worked fine. Get the cheapest thing you can get from China and it probably will work.

I am trying to not buy from China anymore, (impossible i know), so i will even pay more somewhere else unless it is totally out of the budget or like that example you quoted.......

Yea Chinese gov't subsidized free shipping must undercut/affect profits of other countries postal service. Also another way to get customers...........Prob is, how do you know that buying from someone else, It's not a Chinese product in the first place.......????

I think even the Japanese OEMs are having to buy the chinese parts because it is labor intensive to make things like these coils so china rules the roost on labor. I know some of the smaller Yamahas sold in the far east are sourced in china.Just for example the plastic box that the gonzo is encased in costs more here than I paid for the complete igniter. How do compete against that. Looks like Australia is trying to do something about it.
I have to wonder if Holden was sourcing a lot of content from china and the duty's made it hard to be competitive. Note I know little about what happened with Holden

Short version on Holden, ......The gov't was subsidizing Holden/Ford and Toyota, production lines here, that got parts from local manufacturing, so there was a lot of employment from manufacturing parts and not just the assembly lines.........Every few years they would threaten to close down if the gov't wouldn't pony up. which they did.

New PM who decided he wanted to not only be seen to be tough but had to show how tough he was...........same old Holden/ford threats so the PM said get stuffed no more..........Something like 30,000 or more, jobs that also shut down manufacturing business/machines.........flow on was towns suffered............recently i read that the gov't made more than they gave the companies, due to taxes and not having to spend on social services.

Angle of pickup is wrong but a badly photoshoped idea of pickup position. And the pickup is upside down so you can see the center of the pickup. But you kinda get an idea.

is there a measurement for the gap between the rotor and pickup ????

There may be one in the manuals for the TCI bikes, The thing to keep in mind is the neo magnet is so much stronger than the stock one so distance and alignment are less critical. The box will respond to the scooter pickups that are just a lump of ferro steel on the outside of the flywheel that does not have that much magnetism for the coil to see. That's why the pickups are magnetic.

This is OEM Yamaha yz250-yzr450. 2006-08 pickup coil. notice that the mounts can be bent to horizontal and used to mount it on the stator. The one we are trying ($7.00) have the same style mounting.

Noticed that.......Going to buy that 2 pickup set, $27 Aus for 2 i can live with.........keep looking but most of those pickups, when doing a search, (duckduckgo), aren't separate........

Found this............Like the way the bracket is set up. most of the others, (except your one), have the bracket level with the pickup.........
