Drilled mag wheels?

The SR500, and maybe the XS400, (I think), have an 18" that matches.

On the Sr rear wheel (drum brake), the smallest sprocket I could find was a 39 tooth! The hub area is huge. The RD400/TX500 (disc brake) rear wheels are nearly identical, and ya can get down around 30 teeth sprockets. I have both a Sr500 and a TX500 wheel. Prefer the TX unit, but the SR with 39 teeth is a blast around town!! SR wheel is on bike in avatar pic.

Gee I would love to put slots in my cafe wheels
hows it done

Im keen to do this on my café but so far I've had two engineering firms refuse to do it.
Reason given don't wish to modify an original design wheel on a motor bike but also probably liability issues
But I know an old timer side car racer who used to I'm told modified alloy wheels years ago to fit larger tyres by cutting of the rim edge & welding on larger rim edges,, Anyhow he is prepared to do it for me & thinks it would be OK BUT I'm wored about the final strength IS THIS MODE OK TO DO anyone else got any thoughts on this mod
I ride hard & the roads here are not always the best will this wheel hold up??

Drilling is for pusses, slot them out!

This wheel isn't finished yet, and thats my friend Tom from Deep Six Cycles modeling the new look for you guys... Gonna do some blending and make them look good. Doing the rear one this morning... Gonna leave a little more meat on it

I saw a good photo of this a few days ago, they are sweet.

Thanks Punkskalar
For the great Idea
Heres mine just need to do some filling around the edges
Next is the drum rear wheel.

Just have to comment; that Buell front wheel uses a radial mount brake disk so the stopping torque does not transmit through the "spokes" The Buell does not have "hollow spokes" on the rear wheel which has to accept torque loads from the engine.

Quote:
The large-diameter rotor provides exceptional stopping power without the weight of dual rotors and calipers. Because braking forces are transmitted directly from the rim to the rotor, torsional load at the front wheel is virtually eliminated, which permits the use of a very lightweight cast aluminum front wheel.

Im now ready for painting my wheels
Whats best powder coating or painting??
Can you powder coat with more then one colour on one job
I see a lot of frames powder coated & have fracture cracks a stress points

Most people say powder coating is stronger than paint, but paint is pretty damn tough too and can be touched up. Powder coating is pretty flexible so I'm surprised to hear about the stress cracks. I would check for cracks in the frame if that's the case...

Anyway, I would probably powder coat them. Most places will only do one color per part. but there are some places that are a little more creative. http://www.txpowdercoating.com/Photo_Gallery.html
