1966 Honda CL77 305 Scrambler "Next"

I got a CL77, the last of the run had dual leading shoe front brakes...paid $12.50 and rode it the next day...and I still have the burns from streaking and dropping the ol' gal on my left leg...what's that smell... One CL77 seat covered with a cheapo Ebay cover. I should have spent more time on the foam, there were two pretty good ass cheek indentations that I thought I had rectified, still have some show through. I may re-do it in the winter with a better quality cover and foam, but right now I am running with it. I used liquid electrical tape on the seat strap and trim piece screws under the seat to prevent them from backing off. I am finding the stuff has a lot of uses........

I used that same stuff in black to make very minor repairs on a vinyl seat cover. It was a small tear at the seam. Worked pretty well.
 
That is the bike I learned how to ride a motorcycle on when I was 14 in 1974. My dad's '66 305 Scrambler! Wish he would have kept it. He sold it in the late 70's.
Did anyone ever see the Rockford Files episode with it? On a cliff near the Pacific. It featured prominently.
 
That middle photo, the stuntman rider needs riding lessons! Foot down while turning? Super lame!
My best friend has that same bad habit AND he rides wearing slip on "wino shoes". I tell him every time we ride that he's going to break a foot or an ankle doing that.
 
Don't you wish we could go back in time with our current checkbooks. I remember looking at a new 1967 SS Chevelle right after high school when I was a Dispatcher for the local Police Department. The payment would have been almost 70 bucks a month back then, a huge sum of money for my salary.....BTW the 67 SS Chevelle is without a doubt the best looking vehicle Chevy ever produced. I have a few beans in the bank now, but no way in the world would one be affordable this day and time with the price of vintage vehicles.....

In1978 Gunny (Gunnery Seargent) Olson bought an irregular city lot in Yuma AZ. I don't remember much but the sloped lot was V shaped with the bottom of the V at the bottom of two down hill roads. He had a nice home built with two car garage under the main living areaand a very nice patio overlooking the pool set down in the "V". He explained how he could afford it. He said my old house payment was $78/month and the new house is only $97/month. Times have changed.
 
You spend a few days in the garage and step back and say what did I accomplish???? Well, new clutch discs, great pull and it will kick over now in neutral, of course final test and adjustment after the first trip around the block, hopefully. Set valve lash and of course discovered the the cam chain adjuster rod was frozen. Had to pull it off, a little heat, ton of PB Blaster, and it freed up. Checked my surplus gasket cache, only missing one, adjuster gasket. I was able to get the old one off and piece it back together for a decent template for a homemade one. Carbs have been pulled down and cleaned, other than new bowl gaskets they are going back up with the original parts, better quality than most kits out there. I did break down and buy a good quality DID chain and did away with the el-cheapo one I had installed from Amazon. I felt so guiltily I ordered one for the Dream also, I checked the non name brand I had installed on it and was amazed at the amount it had stretched. Going to start bolting parts back on and started with the chain guard, wiring after that to install the Charlies Place EI. Still a long way to go, but now that I think about it, I guess I did get a little done.........

I have finished the 67 Dream and now on to the next one, this rust filled but damn good running 66 CL77 Scrambler. If there is any interest in it what it is going to take to bring it back I will throw up some occasional shots as the progress moves along......I guess everybody has their favorite run or line of bikes, my marquee is the short lived Honda 305 series. When this is done I will have the Dream, Scrambler and I will admit, I have been somewhat searching for a CA77 Super Hawk to complete the trio. I really have no explanation for the draw, I am a big old fluffy fellow and much too oversized for the machines, but damn they are a blast to ride and they were the rage back when I was finishing up High School a few years back. I have sold my XS Bobber and my 67 Triumph T100 to make some room and have a little paint and part money, so let the fun begin........
I have a 65 CB77 Superhawk that I have all apart now. The engine is all together and a few years ago I started it up after it had a multi year nap. I ran great, has 9,000 something miles on it. It was originally a white one. Previous owner bug bombed it with an ugly avocado green paint. That is the reason it is apart. I stripped the entire bike of that mess. I primed the frame and that is where it stands now. Can't decide to repaint it the original color, or switch to the red, blue or black.
