'73 Cam Chain Tensioner in Canada?

It's been a while.... snowmobiling season has been great this year and frankly I haven't even thought about my bike project. Anyway, I hope to tear into the motor rebuild in the next 2 or 3 weeks but just found out that I will need a different cam chain tensioner guide than the 74+...

    First attempt at buffing

Looks good! I'm running a 1/2HP with 6" wheels and have not had any bogging problems. It really shouldn't take much pressure.... .let the wheel do the work. I also started with the rear drum, then the front hub, lower arms and am now finishing up the top triple clamp (it's a real pain)...

Looking into Mini Front Drum Hub... will it fit??

Hey all, I have my original front hub all trimmed up and polished... ready to be laced with a new 21" rim. I have been looking around for options and have been surprised at the cost of a 21" rim (ideally I would like chrome-shouldered), spokes and rubber. Anyway, I have recently come across a...

    Basic Carb Question...

Hey, I have no idea about the fuel delivery and how you are describing it. Frankly, if it were me and it was the only thinking keeping me from riding, I would pull the carbs off and clean them up with some compressed air. Do a good visual inspection while they are off and if all looks good -...

Need Help with 73 Front End Swap

Hi Wickerman, First, I must say that gggGary has MUCH more experience than I probably ever will with respect to 650's. What he is suggesting makes perfect sense to me and he has the experience to back it up. IF that works for you, it is very much worth considering. That being said, I do...

Need Help with 73 Front End Swap

DanW -- I can not comment on the change in ride as my bike is in about 500 pieces right now. My reason for the swap was due to the poor condition of the original front end. From everything that I have read, the newer front ends are more stable. XS Leo, I sold my front end... sorry. I have...

Need Help with 73 Front End Swap

Well, good news. I have been shimming up the bottom of the 1980 steering unit and have found that a 14mm spacer will do the job. By raising the spacer a bit more and making sure the collar nuts (not exactly sure what they are called, but they are the cogged nuts at the top of the neck) are...

Need Help with 73 Front End Swap

Just to update the tread. I have replaced the loose bearings with tapered bearings. For the spacer --- for the time being --- I have left the lower fork loose-bearing cup in place and put the removed lower bearing cup from the bottom of the neck, upside down on top of it to see how the...
