Hey all,
I have my original front hub all trimmed up and polished... ready to be laced with a new 21" rim. I have been looking around for options and have been surprised at the cost of a 21" rim (ideally I would like chrome-shouldered), spokes and rubber.

Anyway, I have recently come across a front hub, spoke and rim assembly that only needs a tire. It is $380 Canadian, 21", mini drum, includes anchor bar and brake cable, chrome.... not shouldered, but that is alright.

Sounds good to me. My concern.....

The wheel has 5/8" i.d. bearings - that would be 15.875mm.

The stock front axel is 16.942mm (not sure what that is in fractional inches... .667").

The difference being about 1.1mm.

SOOoooo, my actual question(s)....

Is it likely that I could simply replace the bearings with a set that have an identical O.D. and proper I.D.? (I don't know what the O.D. is and I know even less about bearings ;) )

Or am I looking at having my axel turned down to make it fit --- would this even work given that the threaded end must also pass through the axel itself but needs to be large enough to fit into the lower fork mount.

Clear as mud?
Thanks for your input in advance.

A

I have a mini hub invader that I was gonna use but I think the 21 looks fine.

You could have the Invader for $150 but it's an 18"

ive ran 5/8 spool hubs in the past i took and turned the stock 17mm axle to 5/8 then drilled out the axle hole in the left side fork leg to 3/4 then made a shim with a 3/4 outside and a 5/8 inside it works great

The Suzuki drum looks great! Thanks for the offer on the 18, but I'm really looking for a 21.

2eightcustoms -- great advice / idea. Thanks!

Go to allballsracing.com. They have a whole list of ball bearings .They run in the 5-10 buck range. Make things alot simpler than custom making an axle. If they have the bearing to fit that is.
