I bent the tabs to prove a point and it worked. Thank you for your feedback about bending it. I don't want to ride it with this ignition system as I have a brand new top end and don't want to hole a piston. I am ordring a Tri-Spark asap.

Well, I seem to have stopped the advance from going past the full advance mark. I read in this forum that Yamaha had a bulletin out that said to bend the stops in a bit on the advance unit. I did this in small increments with a round chisel that has a flat end, it worked ! My advance does not go...

I have replaced the springs with MikesXS springs but they seem loose. Also at certain rpm's, the advance unit makes a buzzing noise. I put back the stock springs but one seems looser than the other. Probing further...

Hello all: I have finished restoring my 77 650. I am so thrilled to be riding it now! I am tuning the ignition system and when I have the timing light on the marks and I am checking the timing advance, the timing advance goes way past the advance timing mark. Is this normal? Cheers, Ronnie.

Thanks Pete, very helpful. I did the squeeze trick and it was a lot tighter. I didn't do the scale test tho. I did put a boost battery hook up to the bike and tried it but it was still jumping out. I have a 1979 block that I pulled the bendix out of and put that 1 in today. I did the squeeze...

Yes, the clip is on the inboard side. He reversed the #4 gear on the shaft. which makes the teeth engage a litttle deeper on the flywheel and the new side of teeth on #4 gear is engaging flywheel.

Hi 5twins, I watched a video on youtube and the guy gave the c clip a bend in the vice and then he reversed the #4 gear so the good side was now in use. He said it worked fine. I tried the standard way and then the reversed way and the same popping out was still there. I watched another video...

he said it's a 72 with a 71 front end.

I think he just plugged it together quickly to make a roller as he just finished his 71 build.

he says they are 72, 2 engines and frame. I am going on Tuesday to have a look. I am in Calgary and he is in Edmonton. I hope it is a 71 but I don't think so. 2 other pix I have... '
