I also wondered the same thing, and figured I was going with what is hopefully the lesser of 2 evils. So far OK.

I think I sat on that bike while Dave was building it. He does awesome work, and helped me keep the XS650 spirit alive while I was wandering through the woods with other bikes. I've been able to see some of Dave's other builds--in progress and finished. All very inspiring and educational!

When I didn't have a hand impact tool, I was able to make due by cutting slots into the already mutilated screw heads. I used a hacksaw or dremel cutting wheel, whichever fit best. Good luck.
