I have adjusted the clutch at both the case and the perch. any tips I am missing. I backed off the lever and loosened the lock nut. Turned the screw to just contact and backed off a little less than 1/4 turn. Tightened the jam nut and adjusted the perch to just loose.???

Also, when sitting the bike will not roll freely in gear with the clutch. Start the bike and drop it in gear and it kills (acts like no clutch). Once you get going, it works fine. Come to a stop with the clutch and it does not push the bike at all. I tried to upload a video of the noise. TIA

I have a distinct Clunk when unloading the motor. IE quickly roll out of the throttle or stab the clutch. I can roll out smoothly with no clunk. Any suggestions? TIA Scott

got it running. I left the pin out of the cam that anchors the advance plate...Found a spare pin and it fired immediately. :doh:

Can I use a timing light to get it close turning it over with the electric start?

It appears that all (70-84) xs 650's shared the same valves. Just wanted to confirm that early valves will fit in a later motor. TIA

I will get a couple pictures of the pistons and sleeves tonight. The magnet on the sump filter did have some debris on it. There is some scoring on the skirting, but I don't know if it is excessive. Thank you for the advise. I will get some pictures up.

The cam has a crack in it, so it would not even work for a re-grind. I would love to add a webcam regrind, but cannot justify buying a cam for a core then spending 150 on the re-surface. I cannot feel any grit in the bottom end, but suppose I should split the cases to be sure. Thanks for the...

I have a 77 that I just tore apart, and found the camshaft with some pretty significant wear and scoring. Where can a guy find new cam? I don't need anything crazy, just stock or similar. Also, how much wear is acceptable on the rocker arms? They seem to have quite a bit. Thanks Scott
