G&L choppers

Well, kind of as a last ditch effort, I sent out an email last week to "The Horse" BackStreet Choppers Magazine. They featured G&L back in the July 09' issue... where I first saw them and I asked if they had any recent info regarding the shop.

Jordan Z., editor from The Horse, actually replied and told me that he phoned G&L himself to find out what's going on and miraculously, Rich immediately answered the call.

Supposedly, they spoke at length about where he's been, why he hasn't been building lately and also, about my bike in particular. Rich apparently stated that he's been nursing a shoulder injury but that he's actually working on my bike "right now."

Jordan said he mentioned that I was trying to get a hold of him, gave him my number and told him to give me a call asap to work things out.

I'm not sure if it'll do any good but it was pretty cool of Jordan to give him a call for me and to find out some more info. He seems like stand-up guy and I definitely appreciate the effort.

Still, no word from Rich.

I'm not taking sides and I hate to throw gas on the fire here, but I emailed G&L back in the spring asking about his mid controls. I got an email back two hours later. The second email I sent was answered in four days, so someone is reading the emails at least.

Nope you are correct. Prior to getting your money...Rich will typically respond to your emails/calls within 24-48 hours. I believe that was the experience of most people here (including myself) but once he has your money...i can pretty much guarantee that you will no longer hear from him...and you will get your parts/project when ever he gets around to it (vs. when he promised them to you) if at all.

Has anyone ordered from these guys lately?

Im looking to order a hardtail and forward controls from them today...

I wasn't trying to be rude but some people have gotten completely ripped off and once you give your money to these guys you might not be able to get in touch unless you pretend t be someone else and call from a different number. Its now common knowledge that these guys aren't straight shooters. Can you wait 6 months to a year for a hard tail? I wouldn't risk it. I bought a bike from them for 6Gs plus. Its sitting in my garage collecting dust because its a piece of shit. Looks nice but I cant get it running and it was like that from day one. I've gone through everything. Eventually I will have to take the engine apart but I dont really feel like it you know. I wish I could get 3Gs back for it. Bike is prob worth 500 bucks. Just saying, do you want that kind of service?

I have to agree with vdubplate here. The shop does good work when it comes to fabrication/hardtails, but there comes a point where all you want is to be out on the road riding and you cant because of one reason or another. After the shop missed the deadline on my hardtail, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ended up waiting around for 6 months until it showed up in the mail one day. Now, I got lucky with waiting half a year, but I think there are other options out there that might serve your time better.

Just another update to let everybody know that this is actually STILL going on!

We've been waiting for over 3 YEARS now for our bikes from G&L choppers and Richard Ford still refuses to accept our calls.

Others have been and still are, waiting much longer.

I actually said in my last email, that he could just keep my bike if he'd just return my deposit and yet, still no response.

Again, multiple complaints have already been filed with the Colorado State Police Department and the Attorney General's office as well as, at least (4) different complaints with the Better Business Bureau, just in 2012 alone.

Beware of G&L Choppers and think twice before handing over your bikes to Rich Ford.

Give your hard earned cash to small businesses that actually deserve it.

Thanks.

Man i really wanted to order their hardtail.

Just placed an order with ardcore.

Should i risk it trying to get G&L forward controls?

Kinda dense ain't ya

It's like reading how everyone who eats at "Such and such seafood restaurant" gets food poisoning - yet you still wanna go there for Sushi...

There are a TON of great vendors out there, Monster Craftsman, TC Bros, Low Brow Customs, and several smaller vendors as well listed here in the "Shop" classifieds. Spend your money with a vendor who actually cares about their customers - you have plenty to pick from...

Don't forget Hugh's Handbuilt! I agree, there are a lot of options out there. At this point if you decide to go with G&L its going to be a risk at losing your money and a long drawn out time line of agony.

wow. Just read through all of this. It reminds me of the guy my dad had working on his 71 catalina. Left RUST FREE floor pans outside in the rain for a year. My dad finally pulled the car and brought it home. Later the guy moved shops, and soon after, the new shop burnt to the ground, along with the almost one off 'vert glass. There went 650 bucks for the door and side glass.

This guy wanted money up front, dad got him to work in installments. Lucky break. Here we are almost 10 years later, and the car is finally metal worked, painted, and he is about to drop in the motor. Too bad money was better 10 years ago, because he couldnt afford the body off resto he wanted.

If your going to have someone do work on your bike like that, you may try and get it to where you pay in 20 labor hour sets, instead of half up front. It may motivate them to build for you!
