Came over from xs400 forum same handle here that i use there. so hi guys. i have surfed this forum a lot and also chopcult. i have ridden on and of for years but never did a ground up build like im doing now. at the xs400 its under barnbuild thread those guys are cool like i know you guys are. i know im playing with the xs650 little cousin a 81 heritage that i have konged the frame on and now putting it back together.i need advice from the electrical gurus that put me on this track. im wiring in a vr115 and coming off my alternator i have green brown yellow and blue wires. so would i just take the black wire from the vr115 to the engine case ground.

I'm not familiar with the XS400. If you post a wiring diagram, that you are trying to mate the VR-115 with, I might be able to help.
 
My bad when i got home from work I went to the shop and slit the cover on the alt wire. Turned out what I thought was a brown was black. Thanks for the welcome . Got spark to plugs last night.
 
On the XS400 it uses a field coil. From a quick look on the diagrams at XS400.com the wires from the field coil are green and brown.
These are the wires to hook to the new regulator. Just follow the XS650 diagrams.
There should be three white wires that hook to the rectifier.
The yellow is part of the e-start cut out circuit. The blue wire is for the neutral light.
