Don't wanna be smokey Bandit!

Were the cylinders honed? If not, the new rings will take longer to seat. You can aid the process by putting a good load on the engine. Use big handfuls of throttle when accelerating and do lots of engine braking.

Cheers, I will do that. Just having a quick break and will read up on what to check for this right side issue. Thinking I should also clean and check carbs over, it did sit for a wile... But then again I was riding around fine last week, for 1/2 hour anyway. Wishing I was near one of you all :D

Dirty carbs could be fine until you hit those first couple big bumps and break the crap in the float bowls loose. Then it can be sucked into the carb passageways and clog things up. To get an idea of how dirty they may be, you should be able to drop that right float bowl with the carbs still in place using a stubby screwdriver. Remove it still full, not drained. Then you can have a look at the fuel inside it and see if there's any "goodies" floating around in it.

Hi 5 twins, cheers for that. The stubby I have (will need to get a shorter one) was just that tad to long so would not fit so... I figured I would check what drains out, twice I opened them up into a clean container while rocking her back n forth n gently tapping her bowls ( perhaps that's to graphic ;) ) and while it seemed clean at first a close inspection of her secretions and I did notice the tiniest af a few blackish bits, really small, a couple were ting specs (about as round as half a grain of sand) and a couple bits just a tad longer than round but still minute. I guess that means none the less that there is contamination. So after those two cycles I decide to try n start her one more time before heading home ( as I had received a pass to stay later, one good thing about in law in town ) and lo n behold she fired up lovely on both sides, I'm not sure if maybe I dislodged something in the process or if the gal was taking pity on me, kidding aside I need to get them cleaned. I will scour the threads on carb maintenance but before that I will push my luck and see if she will get a pass from the test centre. Thanks for your input! And I had a good half hour riding around opening her up!

"Whenever a car, truck, lawnmower or motorcycle is to be taken apart for maintenance, its appropriate to get some books and read up on what is required when the engine is apart. Any internal combustion device needs to be checked carefully when its opened up to see what parts are worn out or need machining, etc."
Takes all the fun out of it then.. *lol*

Yes rainy, well that's how I look after my bikes and cars, and I spend my time out riding in the beautiful mountain areas of Alberta and BC, while others, that feel no need to read up on service manuals, etc., are stuck in the garage trying to figure out why their bike runs like crap. :bike:

Are you not old enough to know by now that people do things in different ways, get their kicks in different ways, are interested in different ways? It's not like I went around eating babies man. ......... If it wasn't for the strict service manual fellas then we probably wouldn't have any precise originals to enjoy or reference, if it wasn't for the latter then there would a lot less deviations to enjoy and there wouldn't be so many new manuals for manual fellas to enjoy to keep track of it all, Our differences keep it interesting so stop it and enjoy :) besides, I'm off today and have a calling to go ride a bit and probably find something else I didn't do right lololol

Well all, cheers for all your input it kept me goin and today was a nice 8 hours out n about :) I'll keep all this in mind in the winter when I am planning to do some bits n bobs to the gal. Cheers, oh, and here is Jenny out by the waterside :D and in the woods ;)
