There's that, but change the handle bars to a style that suits you and the specials are fine rides. Looks like it has some after market rear shocks and dual front disks. Bike looks like it has been well cared for.

What tank is that?

Sorry, been busy...
It's a Track Master from Omar's (fiberglass) I have a custom one that's going on the XS, it has 'scoops' glassed into the sides, where some mini lights will go. Just have to get around to starting the project.

Well I'm new here so I'll guess I will show off my xs. She's a 1970 with a 5" stretch and a DNA Springer.
The silver one is my brothers 81.

Yes it has been exceptionally well cared for ...ie garaged and not ridden much ...yes it has Konis on the rear but I think twin discs may have been standard issue in New Zealand...they both match in wear marks.

Hey grantm,
Hope you fared well in the upheaval you guys are going through, and another 3 big ones yesterday :(. My thoughts are with you guys all the time.

The Oceania Models had twin discs on the front as a standard issue. The 78/79Specials have the mag Wheels with a mag disc rear brake.
Yours looks to have the standard mud catcher rims from a 74/77, (the 78/790 Roadster/Standard was not factory model for Oceania). Your swing arm has been swapped to accommodate the Drum brake on the rear.

Check out the 650 Club of Australia, Have a look at the Buyers Guide for the model evolution.

Good club to join.

Do an intro in the Garage section and tell us a bit about you and you XS

Hello folks, I'm new here and would like to show you my 1982 sx 650. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and am working out some minor bugs with getting the Muniki carbs syncronized and jetted right. It's pretty much been gone completly through except for the lower end and it was fine. New carbs, shocks and rebuilt forks. Handles great and runs good and will even do better when I get the carbs at 100%. Like they say this was one of the best British bikes ever made by the Japanese:) Strictly old school the way motorcycles were intended to be.

Welcome to the forum, very nice bike, I hope you finished soon... :bike:

hey i was looking at your kz440 and i thought it was very nice. i got myself one and im about to bob it out i was wondering if you could give some tips in making that hard tail section. thanks

Here's my second attempt at a hardtail bobber, first at an XS. I picked this one up 3 weeks ago from a buddy who lost interest, already had the TC Bros tail installed and most of the fab work done. So far I've moved the seat mount (It was right against the tank for some reason) Fabbed mounts for the rear fender, added a fake oil tank to hide the ignition switch and the electrics, and mounted the battery box. Got it wired yesterday and fired it up for the first time. I'm hoping to be riding it by the weekend.

Here's my first one, an '81 Kaw KZ440. This was actually my first bike also. I built the hardtail and did all the fab work on this one.

Not a radical mod by any stretch, but a few changes can make a Special into a pretty sweet ride. Those pipes sound awesome BTW, even if they were a bit of a pain to fit.

Love this forum... been lurking for a while but first post. For all of you who like originality I submit my ride. Purchased a couple of months ago. For what I paid I didn't steal it, but according to the odometer and the title, I got a 30-year old bike with fewer than 200 miles. I've seen nothing to make me believe otherwise (but if the experts here disagree then by all means please let me know... not trying to keep my head in the sand).

PO put some silver emblems on the tank and aftermarket mirrors from Mike's, then I swapped out the handlebars, but otherwise I think it's stock. My plan is to just enjoy it as is for the summer then maybe upgrade brakes and a couple of other things during the winter. Ultimately going to Japanese Bratstyle but nothing irreversible and no cutting.

Looking forward to sharing and contributing on the forum.
