    Finally finished the graphics.....almost!

Thanks!! Yeah...did it in the driveway when the wind wasn't blowing and in behind the fence beside the garage when it was blowing to get out of it, but had to contend with the damned BUGS in the cal spot there..........AND while doing the paint, I had some adult supervision from my...

    Finally finished the graphics.....almost!

The basic bike was all done a while back, but now after spending several days FINALLY getting to it and screwing around with taping, painting, sanding, taping again, painting more, sanding, etc., it is finally mostly done. The only thing left to do is figure out what I want to put in the (now...

    Tracker build series (First set)

I had some chain guard issues with the aluminum one I made that is on the bike in the pictures. It was getting hit by the chain occasionally, resulting in the chain starting to chew its way up through the front part of the guard. I made a new one..this time with slightly different dimensions...

How To: Remove the Camshaft Rocker Arms

I'm curious as to what you are referring to. Would those possibly be the parts that Yamaha calls cylinder head cover sleeves? There are 4 of them and they all get O rings..... Are you SURE they aren't there or maybe in the parts boxes somewhere if you didn't take the engine apart yourself? If...

Good Heart, Bad Intentions: another build thread

osteoderm, I really like all that you have done/made with this XS650 and I admire your patience and your ability to slow down and take pictures to share with us. Me...I am to impatient and forgetful, not to mention IMPATIENT! I totally understand about doing things YOUR way, to suit your own...

Need exhausts for your bike? Make what you want!

My opinion is that the way to get what you want is to make them to your own design. This is the latest set I built to go on my Yammie street tracker. They are equal length 1 5/8 inch stainless 16 ga. tubing. I bought the mandrel bends I figured I'd need and got to work measuring, cutting and...

How do you delete stuff posted by mistake, anyway?

    Pipes Remade

I didn't like the right exhaust pipe on the tracker I built, so today I changed it to the one in these pictures.

    Tracker build series (First set)

Thanks for the comments! The Hammerheads seem decent so far, but then I have only ridden the bike on fairly smooth (paved) streets so far, so can't really comment on how they work when pushed.

    Tracker build series (First set)

One of those what? A washer or a lathe? If you mean a lathe, they are around for sale occasionally and come in real handy when you are in the middle of a build and need to make a bushing, washer or spacer that is "custom" for the application and most likely not available on the market....though...

    Tracker build series (First set)

OK..5twins...here are the brass washers that are going on the outer studs to hold things together....I couldn't get my hands on any locally and having them shipped in would cost more than the darn parts, so I jsut made some...about 15 minutes on the lathe and....SHAZAAM!!...done!

What seats would mod to fit a tracker ?

If it were ME and I wanted it to be exactly what I wanted, I would build the seat pan myself, design what sort of a cover/padding I wanted on it and take it to a guy that can upholster it in the style I want and with just the right amount of padding for my behind! The XS650 frames will take a...

Comment by 'dondlhmn' in media 'Bought from original owner in February 2012. Drove home to Duluth on a sunny Sunday with temps in the mid-50's.'

You live in Duluth?? I moved to Reno from there....worked for Minn Power and lived out on the Lismore Road, which crosses the Rice Lake Road about a mile north of Schultz road. My brothers in Grand Rapids say there was not much snow this year and your pics sure look that way!!

How To: Remove the Camshaft Rocker Arms

Now, I'm just guessing here, but I'd say that there is always going to be some play noticeable when you try to push the rocker arms from side to side as there HAS TO BE some clearance between the rocker arm and the rocker cover in which they are mounted or they would bind. Just how much, I don't...
