    Are their any good vibrations?

Yes, but they are not on a xs650! Last year I took the old girl on a 1000,km tour and shook my old bones and wrecked a gps unit with the vibrations. The cure I know is a bmw but I can't let go of my old 650. I plan another trip next summer and am doing what I can to reduce vibrations. Here is...

    ground cable relocate

In hopes that this will help someone who is struggling with ignition, lighting, starter problems. My 1978e has had all the above issues till I traced it down to the ground connection to the frame. The original location on my bike was, as shown by the arrow, the bolt that holds the air filter...

    pamco timing problem

Very pleased with the system. However, I can not rotate the backing plate enough counter clockwise to advance the timing enough. With the plate at max counter clockwise I can get within 3/4 of an inch from perfect time. Question: can I file the slot enough to get more counter clockwise...

    left cylinder runs too cool

Just did cam chain, head gasket, rings valves etc on top end. Got it back together and running tonight. Burns clean with no smoke or oil leaks. The problem is the left cylinder runs cool, you can hold your hand over the exhaust and it is cool, not so with the right cylinder gases are hot...

    OHV chain, maybe?

Hi all been a while. Here is a puzzle this fuzzy old brain can't solve. Compression fine on both cylinders, new plugs, new pamco, hot spark, timing set (almost on the 'F' but not enough travel in the pamco plate to get full spot on). Right cylinder runs fine, hot exhaust. Left cylinder...

    electrical glitch

Having a little electrical problem. When you turn on the lights the horn blows. Pull the wire off the horn all is well except the aftermarket headlight modulator will not modulate (pulse the headlight). Hmmmmm ground? Which wire? Can you imagine 35yr old wires giving trouble, where is the quality?

    mikes retro fairing any good

Fairing Photo Say, has anyone had good or bad experience with the retro café fairing from Mikes. Does it spill enough wind to make it worthwhile? I have drag bars. I think it is #6300. Appreciate any input.

    groundless? 78 standard

Was looking at a post the other day and saw how bad things can get when grounds are poor. Fires, poor electrics etc. My question: How many grounds exist ¸on a 78 standard and where are they? I think I cleaned up most of them but it is the one you don't know about that gets you.

Any stock high milers before rebuild?

I'm interested in knowing how far some of you had gone without a teardown. Reason: I got my old bike back that I sold in'82 and it now has 45000km on it but engine runs fine and compression is 150 in both cylinders. It had not run in 15plus years and was in a barn - see pictures in album. I farm...
