Was looking at a post the other day and saw how bad things can get when grounds are poor. Fires, poor electrics etc.

My question: How many grounds exist ¸on a 78 standard and where are they?

I think I cleaned up most of them but it is the one you don't know about that gets you.

Grounds... hmm...

1. battery to frame under the seat, that's the main one.
2. clean motor mount between engine and frame, the triangle at top rear of trany is a good one. Clean between frame/bracket and bracket/engine to make sure engine is grounded to frame and can be done with bike in frame.
3. coils need a good ground.
4. handlebars ground through the handlebar holders to both switches, often missed.
5. most other grounds are the black wires through out the harness.

that's a start...

yes almost all grounding is done thru the black wire(s) in the loom, there is battery frame ground and a top motor mount to frame, coils or condensers really since the dual coils don't need grounded (ground is the points), a lot of guys also run a large ring terminal/wire from under one of handlebar risers to frame (makes sure the handle bar switches are grounded)
