The left side points connection was grounding against the points housing! It started right up! There is a ticking sound that I'm finding a little worrisome, though. It sounds like a sharp TINK! I tried to upload a video but I'm not quite sure how.

I'm doing a rebuild of the forks on my 76 and the springs that I bought at mikesxs are about 4 inches longer that the ones I pulled out. Are the old ones just really compressed or do I have the wrong springs?

Yes, sir. I'm also looking for the plates that the tensioner screw pushes against on the end of each fork of the swing arm.
