No problems. I was just kinda like what the f..? Why is this guy getting on my case? Ive been a CB guy for a while & just got into the XS, so its a learning experience for me. And you know how it is, reading something always seems worse then having it said face to face for some reason.

Maybe a thread should be started to list head & rocker box numbers on here to try to get some of these back together as a set? Just a thought. I would think an XS forum would be the perfect place to do it.

Seriously? I just cant believe that Yamaha would have that big of variences in thier machining. I can understand that the cam bores might differ enough that you would need to rebore & hone for the bearing tolerences to be on. But, if the holes are drilled so far off from head to head? wtf? Then...

Can anyone tell me if a mis-matched head/rocker box can be re-surfaced & honed or bored for the cam journal to be reused as a whole? I understand it could be costly. But I wouldnt think that mis-matched ones are just trash? Are they? Every other motor can be machined. Can the xs650?

I would think a machine shop could resurface a mis-matched head/rocker box & re-bore or hone for the cam. Every other motor on the planet can be. Or are you saying that Yamaha parts are throw away?

THats all good. But valves,rocker,springs,etc. can all be replaced. I see good fines, decent, usable cases to someone who might want to do full on rebuild, or a re phased crank motor. Ive worked on old Hondas for awhile & maybe they were built better? I dont know? I got the stuff with a parts...

And as far as it being ugly stuff. I have built good,running machines outta worse. And Ive seen some parts on here that look just as bad. Is the forsale section for new parts only?

I like the Cb chop! Pretty sweet. I have a cafe cb750 thats pretty much done. Which is why I ended up with a truck full of mismatch XS! But MI winters can be pretty fuckin long & cold, so it should keep me busy.

Those light mounts are killer. Cool stuff!
