5twins you were correct. The nylon screws corrected the problem! After performing the mod it wouldn't run right and I assumed it was the reg/rec. it was a fouled plug. Still have some other issues I have to correct but I am back on the road thanks to you guys and this forum.

Leo, I rode the bike 25 miles stopped and noticed the smoke and oil, let the bike cool down for two hours, rode it another 25 miles and was still getting white smoke from the crankcase vent. I guess I'll drain the fresh oil and see if anything changes.
