    Events of the day

So I was riding a 1982 xjs650, shaft drive, to work to show it to a perspective buyer. On the way home the rear drum brakes "seized" for lack of better word. The rear tire wouldnt spin when I put it on its center stand trying to diagnose the issue. I loosed the rear brake pedal to release the...

    Ignition Coil

Afternoon everybody, So I worked out my wiring issue, but the bike is still not cranking. I think that the ignition coil might be bad, still searching on how to troubleshoot that. The coil is receiving power, but the spark plugs (which are new) are not firing. So that leads me to believe...

    And so it begins....

Well I got the electrical figured out, well kind of. Lights and everything works, bike still won't crank. It was pretty late last night when I got the wiring finally working and I couldn't feel my fingers since it was in the low 30's. I believe I am not getting fire at this point. I hooked...

    Wiring Help

Well, currently there is no kickstand at all, just a center stand. I have no idea if it had either of these wiring mechanisms in its original form because I never saw it in its original form. I bought this project 80% stripped down already. I did run into a new problem tonight. I attempted...

As of last night.... As of this evening.... Thanks for the help on fixing the harness. I still need blinkers to make her legal. Didn't get to try and crank it tonight, but this week for sure.

    Wiring Help

Its ok. I speak fluent lysdexia.... Wired up, I hope. Now to finish up some other odds and ends before I add fluids and see if I can get this thing to turn over.

I ended up pulling the 8 slot off the old harness and swapping it out for the 6 slot on the new harness. Then just plugged into the 8 slot on the ignition unit.

    Wiring Help

Well skull, you are right I didn't need two threads. I was hoping by tagging this thread "electrical" it might draw attention to it. Next time I will stick to my build thread. For the record, no offense taken. I would have probably made the same comment if I was knowledgable as to how the...

    Wiring Help

So my build thread has a longer post on this, in short I bought a new harness, for an 81' to match the motor. I found out the bike is apparently wired for an 82' harness. The plug for the ignition unit is where my problem is. Here is the plug from my new harness, which works everywhere...

    And so it begins....

Ok... looking for some help here. I have the motor installed and was rerunning the wiring harness. Whoever had it before me attempted to chop off the old fuse box and replace it with blade fuses. In doing so they had to rerun wire so now I have a s*%! ton of red wires that I know should be...

    Project... "Track Star"

That was my guess on the gauge. I have one in my shopping cart and just never pulled the trigger. Then again the build wasn't to a point where it was needed yet. Thanks for the info. Can't wait to see more pictures!

    Project... "Track Star"

Question, what did you replace the gauges with? I am wanting to go digital on my build and just curious to what people are having success with.

    And so it begins....

So it has been a while. I haven't posted much updates here, can't seem to put down the wrench! I have dropped the rebuilt motor at a local shop for a quick one over. They are tuning the carbs and jetting the motor for me since I deemed that well beyond my level of comfort. I have blasted...

Skull- Seat is from an 81, that was easy to ID. I will have to look in the box of plastics and see if I can find the covers that have the model on them. This one does have a factory electric start on it as well, also pointing me to 81'. Angus- I hear yea on the condition. He did give up to...

    And so it begins....

Awesome! Thanks Phil! I really trust the guy I got this from so I don't plan on breaking down what he already did. Once I begin working on bike number 2; well that one is in shambles already.... Maybe before the night is over I can get the pictures I have taken posted. Either way, thanks again!
