    Carburetor help

My only experience in your area is flying in and out of O'Hare, never left the airport. Pretty flat there, huh? Where I live in central CA, I can ride from the Ocean to over 9000 ft in a few hours, so the CV carbs are best for me. DLD1

    Carburetor help

One thing to keep in mind is if you intend to ride where there will be a lot of altitude changes. The stock CV carbs are hard to beat for that. If you ride with little altitude changes, I think all of them will work well. The Dellortos are awfully pricey, and good old Mikuni VMs are hard to...

    Let's See The XS's

    I made a change to my bike, I thought I would update it. I found this fairing at a thrift store for $6.00. It needs a little TLC, but sweet for $6.00. Put it on tonight, here's a photo;

tail light and head light operation question

A 1979 shouldn't have an on-off switch for the headlight. It should only have a low-high beam switch. The headlight is wired to be on all the time, but isn't turned on by the safety relay until the alternator is putting out. that way the headlight isn't pulling battery power while the starter is...

    Bike

ANLAF, I bought my first bike, a '72 XS650, in 1973, and was always hearing how poorly they handled, but I always thought mine handled just fine, and I loved it. I moved on to other bikes and then all these years later after owning Yamahas, Suzukis, Hondas and a Ducati, I'm back to the XS650...

    Tire pressure?

Anywhere from 26-32psi is pretty safe on any tire for road use. If you're a light rider (150lbs or less), go with the lower pressure. If you're heavier, carrying a passenger or a bunch of stuff go higher.

It's always good to have another XS on the road. I hope you have lots of great rides this summer, and safe ones.

    1973 yamaha TX650 should i get it.

For those of you who don't think an XS650 is a good commuter bike, I paid one dollar for mine from a co-worker, bought a battery and replaced a plug wire to get it running after sitting for three years in a back yard. I've been commuting on it for 4 years and it's never stranded me. Sure I've...

    1973 yamaha TX650 should i get it.

In that case, you take it home, clean it really well, get some 0000 steel wool for the rusty chrome, Clean out the carbs and gas tank, and see if you can get it to run.

    1973 yamaha TX650 should i get it.

Gary makes good points, it really just depends on what you want to do with it. I'm sure you would no problem selling it for what you paid.

    1973 yamaha TX650 should i get it.

Here on the west coast if you just cleaned it up really well you could get $500.00-$750.00 for it. $1000.00-$1500 if you make it run. If the guy had it running two years ago, it should be pretty easy to get it to run. Mine sat in a guys back yard for three years and I had it running within a...

    1973 yamaha TX650 should i get it.

It's certainly worth $350.00. From my experience you can take a bike that looks pretty awful from sitting, give some TLC and a few repairs and have a decent bike for cheap. Or it would be a good candidate for teardown and rebuild. Either way I don't see how you could go wrong for that price. DLD1

If I had the opportunity to buy it at that price I'd jump on it.

Decided to post my CAFE build

I went to school with Kenny from the first grade until he dropped out of high school, in Modesto, CA. We went to Paradise School, a little four room K-8 school just west of Modesto in the country. There were only 10 boys in our class, so we all hung out together most of the time. He had trophies...
