Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

FYI the 38/138 and JJJ needles were ordered today. I’ll let you know when they are hooked up 👍 Will be interesting to see what they are like compared to the VM34s.

Opinion needed - Latest Rage Elephant Foot Adjusters

Yes I decided to use the Latest Rage set. They do seem well built and will give them a try. No progress on the engine build yet, will likely get some traction on that in January 👍

Opinion needed - Latest Rage Elephant Foot Adjusters

Did you happen to shorten them? I will grind out the ends of the rocker arms so the adjusters sit shallower or flush, I just don’t know if shortening them is required.

Opinion needed - Latest Rage Elephant Foot Adjusters

The engine in the bike now is the one I put together from random parts off three different bikes (Frankenmotor). I’ll be pulling that one and setting it aside as a standby. These valve adjusters will go in my primary engine that I trashed the crankshaft bearings in. That engine will be in the...

Opinion needed - Latest Rage Elephant Foot Adjusters

Thank you for responding so quickly. I’ve decided I’ll give them a try, won’t be able to run them much until the spring but will update the forum once I start using them. Take care.

Opinion needed - Latest Rage Elephant Foot Adjusters

Hey everyone, looking for opinions on an interesting situation. I ordered some elephant foot valve adjusters from a vendor in BC. I ordered the more expensive Bugpack kit based on recommendations in this forum. When I received the adjusters, they were the less expensive Latest Rage adapters...

    Broken rider peg mount thread

Ok awesome thank you both. Just wanted to make sure I was heading in the right direction. I’ll look for an M8 to M10 adapter locally and if I can’t find one, will just go with the M8 stud option. Thx guys, much appreciated.

    Broken rider peg mount thread

Evening gentlemen. I’m looking to repair broken threads on the upper left rider foot peg mount and looking for advice. I was initially thinking of drilling, tapping, and threading a replacement M10x1.25 stud and securing it with red loctite. Upon reviewing the thickness of the remaining mount...

Crankshaft wobble - freshly rebuilt engine

Hey Steve C, that’s for the insight. Honestly I’m embarrassed to say I had never noticed that they were backwards and had installed them the way I had received the bike. Not a good excuse for sure but can definitely fix it now if it’s a safety concern. I’ll see what I can find on the subject and...

Crankshaft wobble - freshly rebuilt engine

Guys!!! Alright time for an update and a bit of back story for context. I’m 38 and have never owned or ridden a motorcycle until 2018. Always have been mechanically inclined and decided I wanted something that would be a good project, manageable for a beginner to ride, and to do this with a...

Could someone identify this wire please

Hey LC while I can’t speak to whether or not the wire will be obsolete when you connect the PMA, you are correct that the yellow wire outside the harness is for the safety relay. When voltage is created by the engine spinning it will prevent the starter from being able to turn on. While not 100%...

Crankshaft wobble - freshly rebuilt engine

Hey everyone just wanted to give you an update on things. My new cam chain tension arm assembly was not square and the cam chain was obviously grinding against it, which explains a lot of of the metal in the oil and filter. Since fixing the above and also installing a new oil pump assembly...

Crankshaft wobble - freshly rebuilt engine

Thx John I’m trying to track down a side cover now, appreciate the advice. So I really didn’t want to do it, but I split the case again just to check everything. I didn’t do a thorough inspection of all parts yet, but so far things look ok and no obvious wear but will inspect again when I...

This is the current eBay option I was looking at for comparison purposes.

Crankshaft wobble - freshly rebuilt engine

Here is what mine looks like. Definitely not smooth as glass but I believe these covers and the pump itself is no longer available to order so my options are used off eBay or Mikes/xs650direct. I’ve looked at previous posts and I think the only challenge people had with the Mikes pump rotors...

Crankshaft wobble - freshly rebuilt engine

Lol thx Steve I guess it didn’t look too bad to me because my current one is worse. I’m always hesitant to orders Mikes/xs650direct equipment as it can be inconsistent at best. I’ll keep looking for other options on eBay.
