    So I Have This '81...

By the way I took off a king and queen seat from the 79. Along with the crash bars. 20 bucks each plus shipping and they're yours!

Janet is my old stock runner. Added pods and clubman bars and a homemade seat and she's raring to go. The 81 is a teardown.

    So I Have This '81...

I don't trust the stock parts on this one. Are there reliable direct replacements? I've also heard that they are hit or miss. I just want to do it once and know it's good.

    So I Have This '81...

I rescued it from my dad's shop after Hurricane Ike smashed it to the ground. Tank is reasonable. Seat is not. I want to build it from the ground up and with these bikes, I think I have to decide on ignition first. Ignition was the ONLY problem this bike EVER had. What would you do? Seems...

    Hard Start After Ride

My starter works, but it doesn't sound healthy. I left it in place but just disconnected it until I can get around to going through it. It seemed to turn slowly and not fully disengage when the motor fires. Little bit of grind on the back end. But holy hell my foot is sore from kicking!

    Hard Start After Ride

Plugs are good. I've done the kick over method after the carbs have sat dry for a while, but never when warm. I'll try that next time. Only seems to happen after a good highway ride.

    Hard Start After Ride

Tell me what this means boys. 1979 F stock except for pods Starter disconnected so kick only Starts reliably when cold. Twice now she didnt want to start after being ridden. The most recent time was at a gas station. Added fuel. Had a smoke. Then kicked furiously with no results. Choke on and...

    Leaking Petcock. Again.

It seemed to be leaking around the screws. I know this bike was set up for dual vacuums. I I have one non vacuum petcock on a tank from an 81. This solved it for me. The part from Mike's seems to work well on it's own.

    Leaking Petcock. Again.

I know this is an old thread but I just found it so.... 1979 F I got a non vaccum model from Mike's. It leaked around the screws. A lot. I wrapped the screws in teflon. Cut up an old choke body gasket to make washers. Put the washers between the cap screws and the petcock body. That plus...

What have you done to your XS today?

Did I mention I'm a total amateur? I'm not going to an upholsterer this time. I'm gonna try to do it. The homemade test seat took 2 hours total and my old lady couldn't believe I made it. Recycled steel shelf and a Goodwill leather trenchcoat for ladies. The leather cost me 12 bucks. The shelf...

What have you done to your XS today?

I think they would. It's a pretty long bolt coming out of them. Once the seat and cowl are done, I'm sure I'll have new ideas about lighting though.

    Reg/Rec Replacement

'79 650F Bone Stock Trying to clean up the battery box and want to switch to a more reliable Regulator Rectifier. I read 5Twins recommends the AC Delco VR115 for pre 1980 bikes. Does this replace the rectifier also or do I need to buy a separate rectifier?

What have you done to your XS today?

Broke my phone. With carb cleaner. No joke. Solved all my problems. The long suspected vacuum leak turned out to be a screw missing on the port carb. Direct hole behind the butterfly into the cylinder. Stacked some washers and screwed into it. Runs like new. Only 7,000 miles to begin with...

    No Exhaust Gasket?

This is how I got it, but it seems like there should be a gasket here. Am I wrong?
