Opinions on Design Wanted: Good or Bad Fire away

First of all, I love that tank. Well worth the effort to build a bike around it. You could move the coil and mount it vertical under the triple tree, then grind the brackets off the bar that runs under the tank to clean it up visually. I wouldn't cut that bar off though. As for the...

Been riding this one for a few years now, it has never let me down. Well, other than that one time...

Replacement Ring Pictures: Tell Me What You Think

I've been running piston rings from a early 90's Honda Civic D-series motor for a few years now. I was on a tight budget and the honda rings cost $10 shipped for a set of 4(gotta love all those ricers on ebay). So far so good. If I can find the two sets I didn't use I'll try to photograph them.

    Adventure biker saves the day

I swear, those BMW riders seem to put all sorts of extra gear and features on their bikes.

    Interesting experience with synthetic oil...

I too ran Rotella 15W-40 conventional last winter with no problem, other than a little thick when cold. I may go back to that. I'm running a synth designed for turbo diesels, according to the bottle. Like I said, when it gets hot it's not so good. I'd like to get a synth to work well...

    Riding engine temperature

I've just been shooting my infrared thermometer down the oil filler hole. Oil temps were around 160F on a 70F day with an oil cooler.

    Interesting experience with synthetic oil...

^ Rotella did indeed reduce the zinc content last year. I've been adding extra ZDDP ever since. I've been running 20W-50 all summer with an oil cooler. I've been riding in 40F temperatures lately, and the oil pressure was shooting up to 60psi when cold, likely bypassing the filter. So I...

    Oil pressure guage....?

Here's another way to tap it. I get about 15psi at cold idle. Cruise is 5-10psi warm. Warm idle is 1psi. The middle brass line is my oil pressure gauge, just a cheap diagnostic gauge I got from Harbor Freight. I'll probably take it off soon, there's really not much to look at once you get...

    In Uniform

I like it. Considered painting mine drab green, but went flat black instead for ease of touch up. I even have a rock guard on the headlight.

Wheels stolen while parked! Damnit! Need help

That's the craziest thing I've heard all week. I wish I had a spare set to send you.

    Compatible Aftermarket Speedometers??

Yup I'm running a $10 bicycle speedometer from walmart. I bought a tiny magnet at radio shack and put it on the thin edge of the brake rotor. It's strong enough to stick even without glue. I know it's good to about 90mph, good enough for me. No backlight though.

    Dribbling carb screw: 90-degree screwdriver?

I just chopped a screwdriver with the grinder. You could also switch to allen screws like most new bikes have.

I wanted a Green Monster Coil dammit

I think Pamcopete actually got better fuel economy when using the Ultimate coil, and I think the ultimate coil puts out more volts. Could be wrong. I don't much like substitutions myself either.

Picked up a timing light, how do I use it?

Clamp the red lead to positive on the battery(or a spare car battery if it's easier to get to). Black lead to the negative. This is the power for the timing light. Clamp the plastic probe around the left spark plug wire(left as you're sitting on the bike). Take off the little round cover...

    Flipped Stock Headlight Ears

It moves the headlight down and forward, allowing me to tuck the tachometer down lower kind of like the old BMW's.

    Where Do Old Motorcycles Go?

Watching craigslist, I see old cars all the time. Model T's, A's, prewar and postwar coupe, muscle cars, you name it. Really old stuff in varying conditions of repair. But when I look for bikes, it seems like nothing before 1968 even existed. I know my '75 is ancient in motorcycling terms...

Attach it to a computer aluminum heat sink and let it hang out the bottom of the oil can, hidden from the top.

Looks good. Be sure to sell the parts you don't use, I'm sure someone will want that seat.
