    Where Do Old Motorcycles Go?

Watching craigslist, I see old cars all the time. Model T's, A's, prewar and postwar coupe, muscle cars, you name it. Really old stuff in varying conditions of repair. But when I look for bikes, it seems like nothing before 1968 even existed. I know my '75 is ancient in motorcycling terms...

    Tapping Into Oil Passages

I'm in the process of installing an oil cooler and have plenty of experience with a drill press and tapping machine threads, but no experience with oil lines and pipe thread. From pamcopete's photos and others it seems I'll need a couple of 3/8" inside diameter barbs with 3/8" NPT threads on...

    Storm Damage in the Southeast

Came home from work today to find this. Popped my mirror and dented the clutch cover, but could be worse I guess. I need to either build a garage or start parking it in the living room.

Tough to kick start when hot...vapor lock?

My 1978 starts on the first kick every time when it's cold, but once it's warm no amount of kicking works. Eight seconds turning over with the electric starter and it fires right up. Ignition is the basic pamco waste spark setup, fed with full battery power and no alternator/lights. Tank has...

    Split-cycle XS650 - Two stroke hybrid?

There's been a lot of news lately about Scuderi's split cycle engine design...most of which is probably bull, granted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scuderi_Engine It's basically a refinement of a design that's been around for ages, even on some production bikes like the Sears Twingle scooter...

School Me On Manual Spark Advance

I'm toying with the idea of converting to manual spark advance to get a better understanding of how it works. Having sprained an ankle kickstarting the XS last year before I knew better I'm aware of the risks , and I probably won't follow through, but I'd at least like to know a little...

    Advance Rod Side Play

How much sideplay should there be in the advance rod. I can move it back and forth almost 2mm, and while the bike is running I hear it occasionally tapping from side to side randomly. Is there a washer I'm missing or something? I'm running a pamco ignition, can't remember if the old points...

    How about these plugs?

Just finished a small rebuild. Lite hone with new rings, lapped the valves, added mike's 5th gear and all new gaskets. Ran fine for the first 20 miles, taking it easy, mostly below 3000rpm. The other day on a longer ride it really heated up, 320F on the right jug, 300F on the left. Before...

    Headlight bracket rubber rings.

The little rubber o-rings that hold the headlamp bracket tubes in place. Anyone know where I can buy these? I know I could just put some aftermarket clamps on, but I kinda like the stock look.
